Volunteers Needed
The Thermal Ergonomics Laboratory at the University in Ottawa is looking for volunteer triathletes, males and females aged 18-40, to participate in a study to investigate mechanisms of fatigue during cycling in the heat. We are looking to test whether the rate of rise in core temperature determines changes in muscle activity and cycling power output. Individuals wishing to participate will visit our laboratory at 200 Lees Ave in Ottawa on four occasions to perform 1) a test of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) on a bike and 2) three self-paced cycling trials in hot (35C), neutral (25C), and cool (15C) conditions. Participants will be instrumented to determine temperature (oesophageal, rectal, and skin), heart rate, muscle activity, sweat rate, and skin blood flow.
